Acupuncture Vancouver
Holistic Traditional Chinese Treatment

Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine spanning thousands of years. Blending ancient knowledge with modern medical theory, acupuncture has proven effective for the treatment of a broad range of medical conditions. Treatments are designed uniquely for each patient and begin with a thorough history and physical examination. Vancouver Acupuncture excels in the treatment of musculoskeletal or neurological pain, fertility issues, mental health & wellness, digestive disorders, sports injuries and more.

What is Acupuncture?

An ancient and effective component of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into specific acupuncture points along the energy channels of the body. The best Vancouver Acupuncture practitioners believe there are more than 2000 acupuncture points throughout the body connected via energy channels or meridians. According to the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, dis-ease occurs when the flow of energy, or Qi (pronounced “chee”) is blocked in the body. The purpose of acupuncture then, is to improve the flow of Qi thereby helping to restore the body to balance.

At our Vancouver Integrative Medicine Clinic, we use acupuncture as a primary treatment for various conditions including arthritis, digestive concerns, fertility issues, headaches, joint aches and pains, lower back pain, stress reduction, stiff neck and shoulders, insomnia, anxiety and much much more.

At Doctors' Choice Naturopathic Vancouver, we inspire and nourish our patients.

Is Acupuncture Painful?

At Doctors' Choice Naturopathic Vancouver, we inspire and nourish our patients.

We get asked this question a lot!  Although you may feel a little bit like a pin cushion, generally speaking, Acupuncture Vancouver treatments are incredibly relaxing!  In fact, many of our patients tuck in for a wee acu-bliss nap while the acupuncture needles are working their magic.

Acupuncture should not be painful.  That said, it is common to feel a deep ache or throb at the needle location.  This indicates that your needles are in perfect, therapeutic position!  When this occurs, surrender to the experience if you can, and celebrate the steady thrum of energy moving more freely throughout your body.  In fact, it is through the stimulation of this energy flow, that it is believed acupuncture works to restore balance to the body.

If you experience discomfort, please let your Vancouver acupuncture? practitioners know; they will adjust the needles as necessary and reassure you so that you may better enjoy your acupuncture experience.

Following treatment, some people may experience mild achiness from where the needles were placed.  This generally does not linger and usually melts away within a few hours.  As it is really common to feel very relaxed after an acupuncture treatment with us, we recommend you keep a fairly light day following your Vancouver acupuncture.
