Registered Clinical Counsellor in Vancouver

Maïté (she/they) is a Vancouver Registered Clinical Counsellor with over six years’ experience providing mental health support in community and private settings. Her work centres on helping people develop deeper self-understanding, greater embodied presence, and more authentic ways of relating. Her practice is trauma-informed and heart-centred, and she offers counselling in both English and French.

For Maïté, seeking counselling is an act of courage, and she aims to honour that by creating a space that feels safe, welcoming, and collaborative.  Her approach is relational and grounded in the belief that healing grows not only from insight, but also through deeper connection to self and others. Through this lens, Maïté shows up with curiosity and humour, meeting each client as they are and staying true to who she is.

In sessions, Maïté integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), expressive arts, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and somatic approaches to help clients reconnect with their inner wisdom and vitality.

Drawing on a background in gender studies and years of community support work in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, she brings an inclusive, anti-oppressive lens to her practice. She sees healing as both personal and collective transformation, and is passionate about cultivating a culture of care and embodied belonging.

Maïté’s approach is shaped by her passion for somatic disciplines – conscious dance, yoga, mindfulness, and qigong – through both formal training and ongoing personal practice. It is also informed by her lived experiences of immigration, queerness, existential questioning, and navigating depression, anxiety, and substance use. Through individual and relationship counselling, she offers a non-judgmental, sex-positive, kink-knowledgeable space that welcomes diverse identities and ways of relating.

Frequently Asked Questions

A typical session begins with some grounding, a review of the previous session and a chance to discuss new insights and/or updates in your life. We’ll then work collaboratively towards your goals using various tools and techniques, with an emphasis on what feels most supportive to you during our time together.

The first session is a little different as it typically includes more information gathering and identifying current concerns, goals, and ways therapy can best support you.

Somatic therapy focuses on strengthening the connection between mind and body, with awareness of physical sensations, movement, and breath integrated into the therapeutic process. The body is used as a resource to complement talk therapy, helping access insight that isn’t always available through words alone. This approach can support deeper understanding, improved nervous system regulation, and greater resilience.

Expressive arts therapy encompasses a range of modalities (visual arts, drama, sculpting, writing, movement) to explore topics and feelings non-verbally. This approach focuses on the experience rather than the outcome of creating art, making it an approachable and non-judgmental entry point to your creativity. Clients often gain new perspectives on challenges, discover creative solutions, and experience a more holistic sense of healing.

Conscious dance is a movement meditation where people move freely to music, without choreography, to cultivate deeper listening and self-expression. This practice supports therapy by working through the body to help deepen awareness, uncover patterns, learn healthier ways of relating, and build capacity to stay with whatever is present. It also provides opportunities for the body to process and release experiences, and to have a space for play, connection, and joy.

Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) have extensive post-secondary education, holding a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology.  RCCs are governed by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).
