How Karen, our RMT Can Support Your Health During this Pandemic

I sat down with our Registered Massage Therapist Karen recently to hear a little bit about what she was noticing in her patients since the pandemic started.

She noted many differences in the body.  The majority of her patients had or are experiencing higher levels of anxiety and depression.  “Everybody seems to be in survival, fight or flight mode, all the time.  I see a lot of people distracted from their personal self and not taking care of themselves well.  They seem to know that something is wrong (in their body) but don’t know how to fix it on their own.”

Cranial Sacral, Healing Hands

As an energy healer, Karen is particularly in tune with the body and can feel when a shift needs to happen.  And this is exactly what she believes most of her patients need, a shift.  This can then help them continue their health journey in a forward motion.

Cranial sacral work is how this magic happens.  It is very gentle on the body and can help it’s progression into parasympathetic (rest and digest) mode. The minor movements and specific hand placements are focused on the nervous system to help bring the body from a hyper active state, to a relaxed and rejuvenated one.  It can move the energy through the body and help relieve the sense of feeling stuck or stagnant.  This is particularly helpful for people experiencing higher levels of anxiety and stress.

As the receptionist, I can visually see the improvements in patients after they’ve had a session with Karen.  People will arrive for their appointments and often appear to be feeling low, stressed and defeated.  The contrast of how they present themselves after a cranial sacral session is astounding.  They appear lighter, brighter and deeply relaxed.

Taking this type of care to our bodies (and mind) can be very beneficial in these challenging times.  There is so much going on in the world right now it can be extremely overwhelming.  Our bodies are not hard wired to handle this amount of mental and emotional stress.  However when we truly take care of ourselves, we might see an improvement in our perspective, habits, thoughts and actions.

Self care seems to have been the hot topic in 2020.  But do we know what true self care is for ourselves?  Has the typical self care rituals not worked for you in the past?  Maybe you need to think outside the box of what conventional self care is!  Consider making your health a priority, a form of self care.  Body work can do wonders for our health, in ways you may not realize or notice until it’s changed.

I can speak from experience and say that after just one cranial sacral treatment, I noticed major shifts in my mental health and experienced immediate relief from stress.  What seemed impossible or difficult, didn’t anymore.  1 hour with Karen can be more effective than 24 hours at the spa!

Massage, not just a deep tissue treatment.

The more commonly known RMT treatment is massage therapy.  “Massage therapy can be helpful for many other body conditions, not just pain.” Karen states. “It can help people become more aware of their body and improve self love.”

Karen also stated that she noticed more upper back issues.  She believes this could be caused by increased screen time.  Zoom fatigue is affecting not only your mind but your body too!  Many people seem to be experiencing severe discomfort in their neck as well.  Massaging the affected muscles in the correct way can help sooth this issue and improve mobility.

What I find most beneficial in Karen’s treatments is that she’ll do a combination of both modalities, so you get the best of both worlds!  Give your body the true support it needs, physically and mentally, in one treatment.

Karen is here in clinic on Wednesdays, you can book your appointment online!
